Terms of Service.
The rules of the road for buying from smartlight.me, using our firmware, and being part of the community.
The short version
We're SMLight Tech OÜ — a small hardware company in Tallinn making open-source-friendly smart-home kit. These Terms cover what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you, when you use smartlight.me or buy something from us.
Plain English first, legalese second. If anything is unclear, email hello@smartlight.me — a real human will reply.
Who we are
SMLight Tech OÜ is registered in Estonia (reg. nr. 16243087, VAT EE102345678) at Telliskivi 60a, 10412 Tallinn. Operating the storefront smartlight.me, the documentation site docs.smlight.tech, and the SMLight community Discord.
Orders & pricing
Prices are shown in EUR, USD or GBP based on your switcher. The currency on the invoice is the one you saw at checkout. Prices for EU customers include VAT; for non-EU customers, VAT and customs duties may apply on import and are payable to the carrier.
An order is a contract from the moment we send the “Order confirmed” email — not when you click Place order. If something on the page was wrong (typo, mispriced item, out-of-stock), we'll cancel and refund instead of shipping at a loss.
Shipping
We ship from our EU warehouse (Estonia) via DHL, UPS or DPD. Most orders leave the warehouse within 24 hours of being placed on a working day. Free standard EU shipping on orders over €75.
Risk transfers to you when the carrier hands the package over at your delivery address. If a parcel arrives damaged, photograph the box before opening it and email us within 7 days.
Returns & refunds
You can return any unopened item within 30 days for a full refund. Opened devices are returnable within 14 daysif they're in resalable condition (no scratches, all accessories present). DOA units are replaced free of charge — we cover return shipping for any defect within the warranty period.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5 working days of us receiving the return.
Warranty
Every hardware product carries a 24-month manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Wear-and-tear, water damage on non-IP-rated devices, and damage caused by reflashing community firmware (yes, we know — but we have to say it)aren't covered.
Open the RMA flow from your account → Orders → “Request RMA”. Most RMAs are approved within 1 business day.
Firmware & open source
Our firmware is published on GitHub under MIT or Apache-2.0 (per repository). You're welcome to fork, modify, flash, redistribute. We do not consider running modified firmware to be a warranty violation per se, but we can't repair damage caused by bad flashes.
OTA updates from us are signed; we will never push firmware that adds cloud lock-in or telemetry without your explicit opt-in.
Your account
Keep your password somewhere a password manager can find it. You're responsible for activity on your account; we're responsible for not leaking the database. We don't store payment card numbers — Stripe does.
Acceptable use
Don't use the site or our products to (a) jam Zigbee networks you don't own, (b) violate the radio regulations of your jurisdiction, (c) resell counterfeit units as ours, or (d) be a jerk in our Discord. We'll happily issue refunds; we won't subsidise mischief.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability is capped at the amount you paid for the product in question. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses (lost data, downtime of your smart home, that one time the lights didn't turn on for your dinner party).
Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or anything else that can't be limited under EU consumer law.
Privacy
We collect the minimum we need to ship orders and run the site. No third-party trackers, no ad networks. Full breakdown in our Privacy Policy.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by Estonian law. Disputes go to the courts of Harju County, Estonia, unless mandatory consumer-protection rules in your country send them somewhere else.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes get an email; small fixes (typos, clarifications) just get a new “Last updated” date.
We answer email like it's 2009.
If anything in these Terms is unclear, ambiguous, or feels unfair — write to us. We'd rather fix the document than litigate it.
